Merry Christmas Mum xxx

As Christmas time grows good and near
We are told our hearts should be full of cheer
Each carol sung seems empty and hollow
Festive spirits a bitter pill to swallow

Decorations now are only half hung
Tinsel missing and lights not strung
Cards not written and food not bought
This year just seems it’s all for nought

My heart feels heavy and tears roll down
No desire to dress up or shed my gown
but Christmas comes but once a year
and it is a time for those we all hold dear

Mum may be far but she’s looking down
Smiling she watches family gather around
Warm in the notion that our love is clear
As we wait for Santa and force our cheer

This year is a year unlike no other
Our first time ever without our mother
Silent night the words ring out
and for me there truly is no doubt

Mum may not be here right by my side
But I know she is here to help and guide
Things are different yes, not quite right
but she wraps us all in love and light

Our memories we all hold dear
As we raise a glass to Christmas cheer
For Mum would hate to see our woe
We knew it was time and she had to go

I think of her reborn without her pains
Gone are the hardships and MS chains
She’s smiling and laughing and ever young
Looks at me wryly pokes out her tounge
